Wherever the spirit had pushed them, the wheels went and rose equally, because the spirit of living beings was in the wheels. When they moved, they moved too; when they stopped, they too stopped and, when they got up from the ground, they also got up, because in the wheels there was the spirit of living beings ... WHAT ARE REDEMPTORIS MATER SEMINARIES?
POPE JOHN PAUL II IN 1988 FOUNDED THE FIRST REDEMPTORIS MATER SEMINARY IN ROME.
In a situation when entire nations with deep Christian roots, especially in Europe, began to abandon their faith and religious practices, within the charism of the Neocatechumenal Way in the 1980s, the awareness of the need for a new experience of the mission is growing. Numerous families express their willingness and are dispatched to give impetus to the "New Evangelization" of countries with an ancient Christian tradition but now secularized.
At the same time, there is a need for priests ready to go with the families to accompany them on their mission: The Redemptoris Mater Diocesan Missionary Seminary is founded to form a new type of priest: diocesan and missionary.
REDEMPTORIS MATER SEMINARY IN UZHGOROD
VLADIKA MILAN ŠAŠIK (+ 7/14/2020) IN THE FALL OF 2006 SPEAKS FOR THE FIRST TIME ABOUT THE REDEMPTORIS MATER SEMINARY FOR THE EPARCHY OF MUKACHEVO
The Redemptoris Mater Seminary in Uzhgorod was established in 2013 by the shepherd of the Eparchy of Mukachevo - Lord Milan Šašik (+ 07/14/2020), as a response to the great need for evangelization not only of his own Eparchy but also of the entire Church. He addresses therefore the initiators of the Neocatechumenal Way asking for help in the form of an International Diocesan Missionary Seminary of the Byzantine Rite.
OUR FORMATION
JUST AS JESUS SENT HIS APOSTLES TO GATHER THEM AND SEND THEM BACK AGAIN, THE CHURCH CARES FOR PRIESTS THROUGH ONGOING FORMATION.
Formation in the Seminary focuses especially on the human, spiritual, intellectual, and missionary aspects. One of the important elements is also being rooted in the local tradition and culture, but at the same time openness to the needs of the mission and the universal Church.
GREEK CATHOLIC EPARCHY OF MUKACHEVO
ACCORDING TO THE TRADITION, SAINTS CYRIL AND METHODIUS IN THE MID-NINTH CENTURY BRING WITH THEM CHRISTIANITY AND THE LITURGICAL TRADITION PROPER TO THE CHURCH OF CONSTANTINOPLE.
Transcarpathia, inhabited by various nationalities and ethnic groups, became a natural bridge between East and West. On April 24, 1646, in the chapel of the castle in Uzhgorod, a large number of priests signed a document of the Union between the Mukacheve Eparchy and the Catholic Church, asking and receiving permission from the Pope to maintain the Byzantine rite and their own customs.
PATRONS OF THE SEMINARY
THE RELICS ARE KEPT IN THE SEMINARY CHAPEL
The seminary through the presence of relics is under the care of two patron saints who have accompanied it since its foundation.
On September 21, 2013 during the solemn Eucharist at the end of the convivence in Porto San Giorgio the relics were randomly selected from several relics made available by the Congregation for Saints for the mission of the Neocatechumenal Way. The Seminary has the bone fragments (ex ossibus) of two saints: Saint Bede the Venerable, and Blessed Giovanni (John) Liccio of Caccamo.
THE NEW BUILDING
THE SITE IN THE SMALL VILLAGE OF CYHANIVCI, WHERE THE NEW SEMINARY WILL BE BUILT, WAS DONATED TO VLADIKA MILAN ŠAŠIK IN NOVEMBER 2015.
The process of the Seminary formation requires a suitable place that could encourage prayer, study, recreation, and provides a proper place for meals and accommodation for the entire Seminary community.
The Seminary is currently located on the top floor of the bishop's residence in the center of Uzhgorod. This solution is only temporary... MORE INFORMATION
PROJECT
THE SANCTUARY OF THE WORD AND THE CHURCH TELL US ABOUT THE PILLARS OF CHRISTIAN LIFE: LISTENING TO THE WORD OF GOD AND CELEBRATION OF THE EUCHARIST.
The Seminary that will be built will correspond to the canons of the new aesthetics, which is the synthesis of architecture and catechesis. We want to build not only a functional building but also a place that will appeal with its beauty to the heart of everyone who will live or just visit the seat of the Seminary.
